Live recording of 'Sweet Home Alabama' and 'It Must Be Love' in the studio

We had to record two 'Live Lounge' songs as a whole band rather than recording the guitars, bass and then vocals and drums at a later date. I was on bass, Owen on guitar, Xana on the cajon, Elesa playing guitar for 'Sweet Home Alabama' and then on the flute for 'It Must Be Love' and Charlotte doing lead vocals.

We did 'Sweet Home Alabama' in the second take because there was a problem with the mixing of Charlottes vocals, they were too loud so it was distorting the track, so we had to stop and start the track from the begining. I now know that it's important to check the mix before recording or else you'll have instruments that are too quiet then they won't be heard or instruments that will be too loud therefore clipping will occur. Charlotte was in the live room for her vocals and everybody else was in the actual studio where I pluged into the mixing desk and Owen and Elesa plugged into the mixing board. Xana had a mic at the back of the cajon. Owen played lead guitar whilst Elesa played rhythm guitar. Owen has two solos and picks the chords which is heard in the intro whilst Elesa strums the 4 chords and thats it. The chords are D, C9, G and F.

Our last song we recorded was 'It Must Be Love' which only took one take. Elesa and Charlotte were in the live room recording there tracks whilst me, Owen and Xana recorded our tracks in the studio. We kept the same set up to help save time and because it sounded good for our last recording. The only major difference was that we had to record a flute instead of a second guitar. Before we recorded we had to check the levels to see if it was still fine and ready to record. At the very end of the recording my bass clipped, it can be sorted out by a quick fade or something else. I've learnt to keep my levels down or else it may resuslt in clipping.
