We recorded the guitars, bass and the drums today with Xana playing drums in the live room and me, Owen and Elesa recording in the studio itself by the mixing desk. Me, Owen and Elesa plugged straight into the desk and there was 7 mics on Xanas drum kit. We played along to a click track which resuslted in a recording that sounded good and in time and I learnt that it's good to practise at home to a click track so that you'll be prepared for working with them in the studio. It's the best way to help record a track by far because it resuslts in tracks that sound in time and don't change tempo.
I felt very happy with my performnace on this track, it sounded very nice and I had a good tone which is pretty important for this song. It has to have a lot of low end, bass, and not too much treble. I think it's great that there are only two chords because the problem with a song like 'I'd Rather Go Blind' is that theres a lack of dynamics due to there only being two chords therefore I can't afford to play just root notes, as a resuslt I play triads, arpeggios and other interesting stuff whilst sticking to the two chords. The guitar solo helps to add dynamics and is a strong solo which has flow and I play some solo type bass licks around the two chords, G# and Bb, which adds texture. It would be even better if the drums played on the ride and added some slight syncopation to add even more dynamics therefore it would feel like the drums are going somewhere instead of playing the same pattern throughout.
As a whole everything sounded great and I don't think we will need to change any of the tracks.
