Over the weekend I've been learning the song Cry Me A River which was written by Arthur Hamilton, we're covering the version where Julie London sings. The version we're covering was recorded in 1955 and due to its age there aren't any bass covers of the song therefore I've been learning it by ear. Its very hard and its taken a while but I've managed to learn it. I would listen to a brief section of the song, pause it and then try to figure out what was just played. The songs structure wasn't too complicated so I didn't have to change the bass for the same parts but at times it was really hard to tell what the bassist was playing. The tone has a lot of bass and no treble what so ever, it was played on an upright. Due to this I was struggling to tell what notes were being played. Its not prominent in the mix.
