Why I chose this particular material to learn and perform.

When it came to choosing what songs to cover we had to think about what songs would be right for the audience. You can't necessarily choose a song that isn't well known, you have to try and please the audience with a song that more than half of the audience will know. We have to also look at who will be coming to our gig. It's usual college students aged 16 to 20 and parents. You have to have a good range of songs to meet the criteria of the audience.

Sweet Home Alabama is a very fun song when it comes to playing and most people know the song, even if they don't know who it's by so why not choose a song that is well known, easy to sing along to and cheerful due to it being a song with a major key with only major chords.

Songs have to challenege you to a certain degree as well. Sweet Home Alabama can be difficult at times so you have to get the balance between a song that you enjoy to play which is well known and what that can actually challenege you and your band memebers.

Not all the songs you play have to be upbeat, you can perform songs which are more relaxed and calmer like I'd Rather Go Blind. Not everybody will know this but you have to make at least one compramise. We could only pick three songs and we thought that at least two of the songs should be upbeat and we decided to pick a slower chilled out song.

Holiday was our other upbeat song that we decided to cover, we thought that this was another suitable song that the auidence would recognise and be able to sing along to. The bridge in Holiday has the perfect section for the audience to sing along. These momements in songs generally satisfy the audience therefore they'll be entertained and will leave happy after seeing a band perform a song that they might know, or not, and play it to the expectations of the original band.

I beleive that all of our songs were approiate, everybody would have at least known two of the songs from the three that we personally picked. The parents would have been familar with both Sweet Home Alabama and possibly I'd Rather Go Blind and the students would have most likely known Sweet Home Alabama and Holiday. It'ss usually good to choice songs that are easily recongisable, if they don't know one of the songs but the others then that isn't so bad either so sometimes it can work in your favour. New songs that people haven't heard are sometimes good options because the crowd might like the sound of it, depending on whether its a catchy song or other possible music related themes within songs that please the audience.
