Induction Week

On the first day of college we were put into bands so we could practise and perform on Thursday 10th of September. All the bands were going to learn and perform a song for each other on stage. Our band consisted of 5 members. On vocals was Emily who gave a very good performance when we played infront of our class mates and teachers. Tom played lead guitar, he aslo gave a very good performance and it was very fun playing music with him because he was a very confident player who didn't strtuggle in terms of his playing. Marco played keyboard in our band and he helped bring the band together in terms of communication with one another. Jerome played drums and he was a very skilled musician and he's had a lot of experience with playing infront of people so he wasn't nervous what so ever along with Marco. I played bass guitar in the band.I thought that our band was a strong band and individually we were very good for we gave a good performance. Our rehearsals went very well and we managed to learn the song very quickly. We performed the song 'What You Know' by Two Door Cinema Club. I don't really listen to bands like Two Door Cinema Club let alone play that kind of music but it was a very fun song to play to. I thought that I gave an alright performance, it's just I wanted to play something that was more complex and challenging but overall it was ok. I felt that my bass was a little too quiet though but overall it was good. I was very nervous at first but it was fine once I started performing, I wanted to carry on performing and do another song, I enjoyed it that much.

One of the main things I learnt from this was to work with other musicians who like different music to me. We had similar intrests, Tom likes a lot of rock music and Marco likes soul, but we all had to work with each other to help develop our musicianship and I felt that performing on stage really helped to build my confidence. I learnt that I shouldn't over think because the night before I was worrying that I wouldn't get my bass line right even though when I would practise with the band I felt relaxed.
